Five Essential Questions to Ask Your Used Car Dealer

2 Mins read

Buying a used car from a used car dealership can be quite an intimidating decision. As it is a significant financial commitment, you need to do a lot of homework well ahead of time. You have to analyze what you are buying, what protections you have, and how much you are required to pay for it over its lifetime.

To get the best-used car with a profitable deal, ask the following questions from your dealer before signing on the dotted line –

Used Car

Q1: Does the car fit my requirements?

The majority of car buyers make a decision based solely on the appearance or brand of the car. They buy a car that looks good on the outer side and fails to recognize their long-term needs and lifestyle changes.

That is why it is vital to figure out your purpose of investing in a second-hand car and then express it to your dealer. Only then the car dealership would suggest the model suited best to your preferences and requirements.

Q2: Where was it purchased from?

It is crucial to ask for the car’s vehicle history to ensure that you will not end up with a dead investment. You need not necessarily get into the owner’s name and address but need to see the maintenance records at the least.

You have to be a little more aware in case the car was bought at an auction. Double-check if the vehicle has ever been inspected by a specialized mechanic since then and duly fixed by him to avoid future problems.

Q3: What are the prominent features?

Depending upon where you live and where you drive, you need to consider the car type with the technology you want. You may need a four-wheel-drive or other advanced safety system but keep in mind that you will be paying for every little add-on in the vehicle.

Besides, there may be different terms for features by different automakers. So, it is recommended to get clarity on them to avoid any buying mistakes.

Q4: Is it under a warranty cover?

Warranty is another critical factor to consider when buying a car. It shows how much trust the automaker has in the quality of the vehicle. However, you have to know what a vehicle’s warranty covers before buying.

That way, you wouldn’t have to bear or get surprised by the unwanted repair costs till warranty coverage is valid.

Q5: Do you offer test drive and door-step delivery services?

It is hard to believe in the seller or dealer’s claims until you test drives the car yourself. That is, you should ask your car dealership to let you take a drive in the car in an environment that you normally drive in to gauge its actual performance.

Also, confirm if you would be required to make arrangements for picking your second-hand car or the dealership would do that for you.
